Q: What is the Mission of your Volunteer Program?

A: Volunteers are at the heart of The Trustees – communities of individuals, organizations and companies committed to preserving and protecting the places we love for all to enjoy. Volunteerism has been a cornerstone of the Trustees’ since 1891 in conserving land for people and continues to play a role in shaping its future.

Q: Who are The Trustees?

A: We are a diverse community of people who want to protect the places we love or simply like to be outdoors. Together with our neighbors we preserve the distinct character of our community and inspire a commitment to special places across the commonwealth. Our passion is to share with everyone the irreplaceable landscapes and landmarks that we care for – as we know how valuable they are to our everyday life.

Q: What do volunteers do?

A: Volunteers, along with our neighbors, protect the distinct character of our communities and inspire a commitment to our special places. Our passion is to share with everyone the irreplaceable natural and cultural treasures we care for. Volunteers participate in stewardship and agricultural projects, skill-based projects, coastal conservation and monitoring citizen science, and with events and programs across our properties.

Q: Okay, why volunteer with The Trustees?

A: As the oldest land conservation non-profit in the country, we know a thing or two about the special places in Massachusetts. You’ll work together with some of the greatest people ever to conserve land, and have fun doing it! Whether you are looking to put your green thumb to work, to learn how farms run or possibly to get inside some of the coolest cultural sites in New England . . . we have something for you.

Q: I’m not quite sure what I want to do . . . how do I start?

A: First thing: Register to be a volunteer. Next step: Find your opportunity! You can search by keyword, schedule type, location, distance, or calendar.

Q: Why do I need a profile?

A: A lot of administration goes on behind the scenes of every volunteer opportunity. In order to coordinate and support the volunteer programs, it’s best to know who we are working with so we may tailor our offerings to keep our volunteers engaged. A profile helps us do exactly that.
